Firestone 4A-12 "Narrator" (1948)

Rare large Bakelite cabinet table model with both AM & FM! Most radios with FM in 1948 were large consoles. Coupled with a small tube count for an AM/FM radio at the time, this makes this a unique set both in design and circuitry. As a result, typical of early FM, it is not super sensitive on that band. It will receive strong local FM stations (there is an attached long wire to the FM ANT terminal that can be extended for better FM reception). AM receives strong across the dial. The radio has been recapped, controls cleaned and lubricated for smooth operation. New line cord and aux 3.5mm cord attached for playing your own content through the radio. Has a two-position tone control. The natural finish cabinet has a nice marble swirl pattern throughout. There is one small stress crack that isn't all the way through to the outside (visible in the left side photo towards the back). It doesn't detract at all from the esthetic appeal of this very large, molded cabinet. Rare model that doesn't turn up often (I've never seen one before). The chassis was made by Detrola for Firestone. One of just a few built by Detrola with FM and made just before Detrola closed their operation. 14"W x 9-1/4"H x 9-1/4"D.  Greg Van Beek.   E-mail: nostalgiaradiotime@yahoo.com $199.00.  (0000223)
